FC player using crutches - Cologne inches towards the last chance event
Selke and Kilian's injuries are just the tip of the iceberg for Cologne as they prepare for their most crucial game of the season. "It feels like we've lost another battle," said Timo Schultz (46), their coach.
"The players are beyond exhausted"
News: Denis Huseinbasic (22), Cologne's midfield scrum-half, will be unavailable for the next match due to picking up his fifth yellow card in Heidenheim. Schultz will have to choose between Dejan Ljubicic (26) or Jacob Christensen (22) as his replacement. In another unfortunate incident, Max Finkgraefe (20) and Luca Waldschmidt were injured in the last-minute victory against Union. This is a huge blow for Cologne.
Schultz added,"Both players are in a lot of pain and don't seem to be in good shape. Sometimes that's not a big deal, hopefully. We'll have examinations done in the next few days and will know more."
Despite these setbacks, Schultz remains optimistic about Cologne's chances in the final. "We have plenty of players in the squad and everyone's eager to contribute and help out. Just the way the substitutes arrived at the bench today - you can tell they were desperate to make an impact and get on the field immediately. That'll still be the case next week."
If Finkgraefe and Waldschmidt are unable to play, Schultz will have to make some adjustments. Defensively, Dominique Heintz (30) is the likely choice. Offensively, Schultz must decide if Mark Uth (32) can start in the starting lineup or if he'll continue to be a wildcard after his extended layoff.
