The politician failed to show up in court. - City councillor of AfD faces arrest warrant.
Steffen Baumann, an AfD city councilor in Schönebeck (Saxony-Anhalt), is currently sought after by a national arrest warrant. Media outlet "Volksstimme" states that this was issued since Baumann didn't show up at court last week.
The owner of a local trade business is on trial at Schönebeck district court due to commercial fraud in over 50 instances. It's claimed he made many false declarations to a health insurer and defrauded the insurance company.
Whether the arrest warrant will make Baumann attend the court hearing is controversial. This is because it's likely only valid in Germany. Nonetheless, AfD city counselor Nils Reichenbach thinks Baumann is currently in Switzerland, where he's been employed at an architecture firm in Zurich since March 2023.
Interestingly, proof of Baumann living in Switzerland can be found on LinkedIn. It appears the suspended arbitrator (suspected embezzlement) has been hired by the firm since March.
