Circa Las Vegas marks its debut.
In the heart of Las Vegas, a highly anticipated new luxury resort dubbed the Circa Hotel & Casino has finally opened. This establishment caters exclusively to adults aged 21 and above, with a focus on attracting gambling and betting enthusiasts. It's the first full renovation in Vegas in over 40 years, despite the ongoing pandemic crisis. Profits from this casino are anticipated to be high.
Strange celebrations under restrictions
Typical of Vegas, casino launches are renowned for their extravagant parties. In the past, these events included VIP guest lists, performances, and fireworks. Operators employed these grand openings to celebrate and initially draw crowds, as well as to build long-term customer relationships.
The grand opening of the Circa Hotel & Casino in Downtown Vegas on October 28th, however, was vastly different due to the global health crisis. Guests residing at Circa's sister hotels can enjoy privileges at the new resort, such as early and free access to a multi-level pool amphitheater.
This swimming complex boasts six pools spanning over 1,500 square meters. Known for being legendary, the on-rooftop amphitheater is home to a 38-meter-long screen projecting sporting events. The facility features an ingenious cleaning system - the water can be completely filtered and purified in a single hour. A UV-C light is employed to eliminate viruses in the process.
An architectural nod to the old Las Vegas
Designed by Steelman Partners, an architecture firm specializing in casino resorts, the Circa Las Vegas is positioned on Fremont Street near the Vegas Strip, where once the Las Vegas Club, the Mermaids Casino, and Glitter Gulch strip club stood. The buildings were demolished in 2017, and construction began in February 2019.
This results in a luxury resort that defies all expectations, as Vegas Vickie, the iconic Glitter Gulch cowgirl, now resides in the lobby. The interior features 70s-style carpets, showcasing a tribute to the golden era of the gaming metropolis. Walls are graced with portraits reflecting gambling's rich history.
In keeping with the modern era, the new Circa hotel features a digital power grid and AI elevators. These elevators generate their own power as they travel, as well as maintaining WiFi connectivity in the event of a power outage. Room access can be controlled via smartphones, and each room is equipped with a tablet. While smoking is allowed, a state-of-the-art filtration system ensures that 98% of the air remains fresh.
Setting standards with huge gaming area
In terms of size, the Circa's casino space exceeds all expectations, measuring 650 square meters. It contains 49 gaming tables and 1,350 slot machines. The largest sports betting lounge in Vegas consists of three levels with numerous tables and seats. The sporting events are broadcast on a total of 19 screens. The entire casino spans across 55,000 square meters.
Catalyst for a Las Vegas revival?
The Las Vegas gaming sector has suffered greatly due to casino closures. Despite an August sales recovery, revenue was only up 10.5% and was still 22.4% lower than last year's figures. Total revenues for September amounted to $821.1 million, with wagers at $10.32 billion. This led to a 3.3% increase from the previous month.
Nevertheless, Nehme E. Abouzeid, President of the consultancy LaunchVegas, maintains that Las Vegas is not only surviving but reinvesting. He believes that Circa Hotel & Casino, by separating its casino and hotel launches, will offer the company greater flexibility in adapting to the current situation. Additionally, employee morale is exceptionally high, as the survival of the entire gaming industry hinges on success.
Similar to the pool area, Circa's casino is a sight to behold. With two floors of gaming space, 49 tables, and 1,350 slot machines, the property offers 650 square meters of casino space. A massive sports betting lounge dominates the scene as well, featuring over 19 screens to watch from three levels, each requiring prior reservation. In total, Circa boasts 55,000 square meters of space for gambling, entertaining, and dining.
Despite the dire circumstances, Las Vegas has remained vibrant and has continued to thrive. Nehme E. Abouzeid, the President of a Las Vegas consultancy, emphasizes that the city is healthy and eager to return to the thriving environment it once was. The strategic splitting of the casino and hotel openings allows Circa to react optimally to the current landscape. Furthermore, as Abouzeid stresses, the employees' enthusiasm is sky-high, especially given the magnitude of this industry's fight for survival.
Sales in Las Vegas casinos skyrocketed in August, achieving their highest monthly revenue since February. These figures showed an increase of 10.5% from the previous month. Total revenue for that September amounted to $821.1 million, as bettors placed $10.32 billion worth of wagers. This is a hike of 3.3% from the month before.
The top earners in casinos were slot machines, raking in a whopping 12% of the total revenue with an impressive 607.5 million dollars. However, this amount is 12% less than what was earned in 2019. Table games weren't far behind, adding another 213.6 million dollars to the casinos' coffers, but saw a 17.9% decrease compared to the previous year. It appears that Las Vegas still has some healing to do.
