Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins out for Week 10
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins will miss Sunday's game against the Houston Texans with a hamstring injury.
According to the latest injury report, Higgins has broken ribs, but the Bengals listed him as "out."
Wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Charlie Jones are listed as questionable for Week 10. Chase is expected to play and Jones will make a game-time decision.
Defensive end Sam Hubbard also missed Sunday's game against the Texans with an ankle injury. Defensive tackle Josh Tupou is also questionable this week.
Tough guy Higgins is out
Quarterback Joe Burrow is finally back from a calf injury that originally occurred in the preseason. Burrow aggravated a calf strain late in his second game of the season. Although Burrow did not miss a game, a calf injury slowed him down and the Bengals offense struggled. The Tigers started 0-2 and were 1-3 by week four.
Burrow's recovery coincides with a four-game winning streak, including three after the Week 7 bye. The Bengals have recently beaten three teams that made the playoffs last season. They defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6, the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8, and the Buffalo Bills in Week 9.
Burrow had his best performance of the season in a 24-18 victory over the Bills. He had 348 yards and two touchdowns for the Bills.
Higgins led the Bengals with eight catches for 110 yards against the Bills. He broke a rib in Week 4 against the Titans but continued to play despite the pain.
Tee is a tough guy,” head coach Zac Taylor said.
Higgins strained his hamstring in practice earlier this week. Taylor said Higgins will be considered on a weekly basis due to his recent injury, but he won't play against the Texans.
Higgins, a second-round pick out of Clemson in the 2022 NFL Draft, is in the fourth and final year of his first rookie contract.
Higgins has 27 catches for 328 yards and two touchdowns this season. He had 21 touchdowns and 205 receptions in his first three seasons. He topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark each of the past two seasons.
Chase expected to play with back pain
Bengals star wide receiver Chase suffered a serious and horrific fall during Sunday's game against the Bills. He underwent X-rays and an MRI, but nothing serious was found. He was diagnosed with a bruise on his back.
The Bengals held Chase out of practice Wednesday and he was limited Thursday and Friday. Although he is listed as questionable, Chase told reporters he intends to play against the Texans on Sunday.
“It feels a lot better than Monday,” Chase said. "I've been working out more, so I'm feeling better. I'm playing in my head, you know what I'm saying? So, we'll see until further notice and everything else."
Chase, the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, played with Burrow at LSU. Chase has 64 catches for 67 yards and four touchdowns this season. Through the first four games of the season, Burrow did not see the end zone as he battled a calf injury.
Chase had a stellar performance against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5, setting a Week 5 season high with 15 catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
Tyler Boyd will have a chance to play in Week 10, with Chase dealing with back soreness and Higgins sidelined. Boyd has 36 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns this season. Backup wide receivers Trenton Irwin and Andrei Iozivas will also move up the depth chart this week.
