Churchill Downs and Sports Illustrated are teaming up on restaurants for Derby Week
Churchill Downs and Sports Illustrated have announced a naming rights deal for a new restaurant in the home of the Kentucky Derby.
Club SI was originally planned to be the 1895 Club and was expected to open on May 4 before the 150th Kentucky Derby. Financial terms of the partnership between the gaming company and the sports media publication have not been disclosed.
Club SI will debut as part of Churchill Downs’ $200 million paddock renovation project for the upcoming 150th Kentucky Derby, offering a new luxury equestrian dining experience that will immerse guests Enjoy the view of the brand new paddock and paddock track. An unparalleled behind-the-scenes experience,” according to a statement from Churchill Downs, Kentucky.
The refurbished paddock is widely seen as a catalyst for Churchill Downs and is expected to attract more visitors to the Run for the Roses and other major races at the track.

Churchill Downs and Sports Illustrated added that celebrity ambassadors welcome guests to Club SI each year during the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks. The venue will be decorated with iconic covers from famous sports magazines as well as other sports-related artwork.
“The club will be open on senior race days and feature tables for groups of two, four, six or eight, a curated chef’s table buffet, designated betting windows, a private bar and live racing on the outdoor track Watch the delicious food on offer," the gaming company added.
Although Churchill Downs has no stake in the Las Vegas Strip and concerns remain about the state of the U.S. horse racing industry, the stock is a betting favorite on Wall Street. Catalysts include a number of high-return capital projects, benefits from Exacta and P2E acquisitions, and an emerging growth story related to Historic Horse Racing (HHR). The Paddock is one of those projects.
The famed racecourse is also currently completing a $14 million upgrade to its Jockey Club Suites.
Additional Amenities at Club SI
The first leg of the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby is the most betting and most-watched horse racing event in the United States and has long attracted the rich and famous. Therefore, high-end amenities on the track are a must, and Club SI delivers on those requirements.
