Choctaw casino taps Texas sports legend for ad campaign
Choctaw Casinos & Resorts, the gaming and hospitality arm of Oklahoma's Choctaw Nation, has made no secret of targeting Texans to keep its casinos operating. The tribe's latest marketing strategy emphasizes the importance of Texas to the financial success of Choctaw casinos.
The tribe opened a $600 million, 1,000-room hotel at the Choctaw Casino & Resort in Durant in 2021. Located just 80 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area, Choctaw Casino benefits from the advantages of being in Texas. Slot machines are prohibited.
The Choctaw family also owns and operates casino resorts in Pocola and Grant. Pokola is west of the Oklahoma-Arkansas border and Grant is about 50 miles east of Durant and north of the Texas line.

The "Where the Players Play" campaign includes TV, social media and radio ads featuring celebrity likenesses. Aikman, who grew up in Oklahoma and attended the University of Oklahoma for a year before transferring to UCLA, said he is "very excited" to be working with the Choctaw Casino.
The Choctaw have used Texas sports stars and teams for years to promote their Oklahoma casinos. Choctaw Casinos & Resorts has partnerships with the Texas Rangers, NHL's Dallas Stars, NBA's Dallas Mavericks and PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson.

Game is still paused
Texas lawmakers are again considering lifting the state's ban on commercial casinos and slot machines this year. But after a gambling bill passed the state House of Representatives in May, the bill stalled in a Senate committee.
Las Vegas Sands has spent millions of dollars in recent years lobbying Texas lawmakers to allow the company to come in and build casino destinations. Support for the game appears to be growing, and one of its strongest backers is billionaire Mark Cuban.
The Mavericks owner and "Shark Tank" star said in May that "Texas needs casinos to boost tourism" and diversify the state's hospitality offerings.
