Intense weather conditions - Child extracted from drowning in Saarland by fire service

### Uncontrolled Water Floods Saarland

Regions in Saarland like Fischbach-Camphausen and Quierschied were submerged in water, leading to road closures in multiple municipalities. Rivers and streams overflowed beyond control.

Quierschied's non-partisan mayor, Lutz Maurer, advised citizens, "Obey the directives and barriers set up by the emergency services; don't attempt to enter or drive on river banks, flooded or partially flooded roads, and paths. Avoid putting yourself in danger to salvage property."

Even for the fire department, there was sometimes no way forward

The local fire department reported, "The Fischbach river's water levels are rapidly rising, resulting in significant flooding."

Garbage cans float on the water. Helpers give instructions to residents via megaphone

Municipal workers and volunteers from Quierschied's fire department have been tirelessly working since the early hours to rescue what can still be saved. Residents tried to save their cars but several were engulfed by the rising water. Countless basements also flooded, with the extent of the damage to be determined later.

All three kindergartens and the elementary school in Quierschied, Fischbach-Camphausen, and Göttelborn were shut down early.

Citizens brought their pets to safety. There was nothing they could do about the water

Mayor's Call: "Avoid Flood Sightseeing"

Mayor Maurer urges citizens to pay attention to the latest reports and announcements on the radio. He is directly on the scene and in touch with Christian Peter, the fire chief, state road construction representatives, and police officials.

His plea, "Please refrain from 'flood tourism' and instead assist those in need. Anyone not putting themselves in danger should aid those affected."
