International Ice Hockey Tournament - Chicago's ice news flash

Lukas Reichel, a former Berlin resident, recently arrived from Chicago through Warsaw, joining our team as a valuable asset. Following the AHL play-off exit with the Rockford IceHogs, he obtained authorization to participate in the World Championship.

Reichel expresses his excitement, stating, "I'm feeling fit and eager to play a memorable tournament while having a great time with my teammates."

The nimble, technically skilled forward, alongside NHL pro JJ Peterka (Buffalo) and Wojciech Stachowiak (Ingolstadt), forms a lethal scoring line.

Born in Nuremberg, the German champion with the Berlin Eisbären in 2021, Lukas was later drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round, 17th position of the NHL. He signed a new two-year contract worth €2.2 million before heading to the World Championship, providing even more incentive.

Celebrating his 22nd birthday at this World Cup, he received a trendy sweater from his teammates. To mark the occasion, Reichel scored two goals in the 8:2 victory against Kazakhstan.

Reichel shares, "I still know several of the guys, most of them are from Berlin. It's a blast being back on the ice with them."

Hailing from a family of ice hockey players, Reichel's father, Martin, donned a Germany jersey in various world championships, while his uncle Robert played 900 games for the Calgary Flames, the New York Islanders, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now, Lukas brings the Reichel legacy to the NHL.

His objective at the World Championships in the Czech Republic: "I intend to win games and, by the way, I'm managing the high expectations well."

Last year, this NHL professional was forced to withdraw from the World Championships due to injury. This year, his goals involve guiding us into the knockout rounds and hopefully earning another medal.
