Alert issued for potential storm in Hildesheim - Cherry stones raining from the heavens.
In the afternoon, dark clouds gathered over the village of Ahrbergen in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony. The sky became ominous, and before long, a storm brewed that brought hailstones crashing down on the village. Heavier rain followed, turning some streets into raging floods. The fire department dealt with many emergencies swiftly: overflowing cellars, flooded gullies, and hail-covered landscapes that resembled wintry scenes. Edmund Rheinländer from the Giesen fire department quipped, "If only we had mulled wine, it felt like winter out here."
Resident Claus Heinicke's cellar flooded within minutes, forcing him to call the fire department due to 4,000 liters of water. The total damage across the district is yet to be assessed. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incidents.
Whit Monday in Lower Saxony featured only a couple of isolated thunderstorms. For the most part, it will be cloudy but dry. However, wetter.net predicts possible thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail on Tuesday.
