His transfer fee is estimated at approximately 12 million euros. - Chelsea has reached an accord with their new coach.
After the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino at the age of 52, Chelsea Football Club is searching for a new coach. It seems that the London club has now found a suitable replacement for the Argentine.
As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea has reached an agreement with Enzo Maresca, who's 44 years old. Maresca has been managing Leicester City since the previous summer, helping the 2016 English Premier League champions reclaim their spot in the league during his first season.
Prior to that, Maresca worked as an assistant coach for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City for a season. The ex-pro, who played for Juventus and Sevilla, has reportedly informed Leicester of his intentions to leave.
The Daily Mail suggests that the transfer fee would be approximately 10 million pounds or around 12 million euros. Maresca is rumored to sign for a period of three years, with Chelsea planning to make the announcement this week.
Maresca's change in job comes with a familiar face from Chelsea's past. Willy Caballero, a former Chelsea goalkeeper from the years 2017 to 2021, is currently assisting Maresca as a coach.
For the club's manager, Todd Boehly, Maresca will be the fourth coach in two years. In September 2022, Boehly terminated Thomas Tuchel's contract and hired Graham Potter in quick succession.
However, Potter was let go in April 2023, and Frank Lampard followed him. In the summer of 2022, Boehly signed Pochettino, but after finishing 6th in the Premier League, Pochettino's time at Chelsea was cut short after just one season.
Chelsea missed out on the Champions League qualification, despite record transfer spending of 471.8 million euros, and instead found themselves in the Conference League playoffs.
Now, Boehly hopes that things will improve significantly under Maresca's leadership in the future.
