Checked Iovation connection to Ultimate Gaming
Iovation's website promotes the online security company as "online gambling fraud protection," and that's exactly what Nevada's first legal online poker site, UltimatePoker.com, does indirectly using them through third parties. That was until some chat rooms and the Nevada Gaming Control Board (GCB) discovered the former Ultimate Bet’s “safe” connections. It's all part of America's first legal foray into a squeaky clean, tightly regulated new world of Internet poker.
“The ultimate responsibility here lies with the licensee [Ultimate Gaming] and I know they are working on it,” A.G. said. Burnett, GCB President. "In turn, we will analyze the information we get from Ultimate and decide on next steps."
Not a registered provider
Not only is Iovation not a registered service provider in Nevada under the Silver State's strict new online gambling regulations, but it is likely to fall into the "bad actor" category, which would prevent PokerStars from obtaining a gambling license for at least five years. Under this gambling provision, any gambling company that continues to accept U.S. customers from January 1, 2007 is a "bad actor." The Iovation Ultimate Bet scandal happened in 2008.
Such "bad actor" provisions would explicitly prevent companies and assets from continuing to operate in the United States after the passage of UIGEA; the question is whether it would also exclude companies that have worked with such companies, especially those notorious for another gaming site UltimateBet.com (not affiliated with UltimatePoker.com) is a company that provides software that some consider to be a weak site that allows insider players to view other players' hole cards and thus always make perfect gaming decisions.
Service stopped
Two-week-old Ultimate Gaming, the parent company of UltimatePoker.com, quickly severed ties with Iovation after becoming aware of the connection. In fact, using Iovation is CAMS, a geolocation, customer identification and payment processing provider. CAMS is registered as a licensed service provider in the State of Nevada. Oh, what a tangled web this online gaming adventure weaves!
Two weeks after its founding, Ultimate could not afford to be associated with a company that ultimately led to Ultimate Bet's demise. It also makes you wonder why Stations Casinos, the land-based casino company that owns UltimatePoker, chose to include the word "Ultimate" in the nickname of its online poker game.
Things that make you say "eh."
