Latest search tool - ChatGPT competes against Google.

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is set to unveil a new search engine in the coming days, potentially disrupting the online search landscape.

The forthcoming feature will enable users to search the internet using ChatGPT's AI-powered chatbot, resulting in more comprehensive information.

While specific details about the function remain scarce, it may be revealed as soon as Monday, according to Bloomberg.

With over 100 million weekly users, ChatGPT could become the first significant competition for Google in the realm of online searches.

Real-time AI-powered search results

ChatGPT is a cutting-edge language model that can provide answers on a wide range of topics. However, its ability to offer real-time information is currently restricted for most users. This is achieved via the integration of Microsoft's Bing search engine. Notably, OpenAI secured a $13 billion investment from Microsoft to make this possible.

► This would mark the most significant change to ChatGPT's capabilities thus far.

At present, users can access real-time information by upgrading to the paid version of ChatGPT. But this functionality is limited, with Bing powering the search results.

It is speculated that with the new feature, ChatGPT will have the capacity to search the live web and display images in search results.

The question of whether this functionality will be provided for free or only to paying users has yet to be clarified.

Rampant speculation

Interestingly, tech enthusiasts observed that OpenAI had registered the domain search.chatgpt.com, as reported by DailyMail.

► At present, this URL directs users to a "Not found" page, but over the weekend, it briefly routed them to ChatGPT's official website.

Allegedly, two sources close to the matter informed Reuters that OpenAI intends to launch the new search feature on Monday.
