Gatherings or Social Events - CDU regional leader responds coolly to BSW and Value Union.
In relaxed anticipation, Jan Redmann, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Brandenburg, doesn't mind the potential involvement of two newly-formed parties - Werteunion and Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) - in the upcoming state elections. Werteunion has virtually lost all of its Brandenburg-based members and is rebuilding from the ground up, as it aims to attract conservative voters. "I'm not on board with elevating phantom parties by engaging in detailed discussions with them," Redmann reported to the German Press Agency.
In mid-May, Werteunion established a state branch in Brandenburg. Their goal is to lure voters further to the right of the CDU/CSU.
Meanwhile, Saturday will see the founding gathering of the BSW in Brandenburg. Redmann noted that, unlike in Thuringia and Saxony, the BSW appears to have disregarded Brandenburg entirely, lagging behind in setting up their state-level association. He couldn't identify any unified, programmatic vision from the alliance. Redmann believes that, as BSW becomes more streamlined and vocal, their public support will dwindle. Currently, the BSW is a sort of wishing well for many.
A CDU-organized "small party conference" will settle on the election manifesto this Saturday. The new Brandenburg legislature will be chosen on September 22.
