Casino crime summary: San Jose gambling, prostitution arrests
Five suspects were arrested this week following a raid on an illegal gambling establishment north of San Jose, California.
Authorities also seized 33 guns, about $20,000 in cash, 150,000 rounds of ammunition and about 500 pounds of suspected marijuana during Wednesday's court-ordered raid.
The suspects arrested were Saolepea Liu, 42, of Antioch, Calif., and Nido Nguyen, 35, Phuong Nguyen, 44, Windie Pratt, 41, and Anai Garcia, 24, of San Jose.
Each was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail. The exact number was not immediately announced.
The investigation began earlier this month. At that time, San Jose Police Department (SJPD) officers received a report that an illegal multi-unit casino was operating at a commercial building on Autumndale Drive in north San Jose.
It turns out there was more than just illegal gambling taking place on the site. SJPD officers said they uncovered illegal drug sales and prostitution, San Francisco television station KRON reported.
Women who were victims of sex trafficking at a brothel in the building received resources and support following the raid, KRON reported in an SJPD statement released Friday.
The investigation is ongoing and further arrests may be made.
