Casino crime summary: Police kill gunman on casino garage parking ramp
A man was shot and killed by local police this week after his truck rammed two patrol cars in the Sioux City parking lot of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Iowa.
Earlier Monday, the suspect first rammed his white truck head-on into a patrol car parked in a garage. Then he drove toward the exit.
The only person in the truck continued to leave the parking lot and was encountered by other responding officers. He drove directly toward a second Sioux City patrol car and collided head-on with it," a statement from police said.
The motorist, later identified as Salvador Perez-Garcia, 55, of Sioux City, then got out of the truck and approached officers while waving a chain with a metal attached.
He brandished the weapon in a manner that police described as "aggressive and threatening," the Sioux City Journal reported.
Police initially attempted to deescalate the confrontation. But police said the suspect failed to comply. Then he was shot and killed by the police.
Police provided first aid to the injured suspect, who later died at the scene.
Police did not disclose the suspect's motive. The incident is under investigation.
