Casino crime summary: Police involved in Florida shooting
A man was arrested Tuesday after trying to hit a Florida police officer with his car near the Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood. The officer fired at the suspect, who was not injured, authorities said.
According to Florida television station WTVJ, an unnamed Seminole Police Department officer provided medical aid in a parking lot near the casino around 7 a.m.
There, the officer involved confronted the suspect, 26-year-old Solomon Eugene Terry.
According to police, Terry then "used his vehicle as a weapon" against the officer. Fearing for her life, the officer fired one shot in Terry's direction.
Terry then jumped out of the car and fled the parking lot south of the casino. The officer was not injured in the incident.
Suspicious concerns
After the confrontation, police used helicopters, police dogs and officers with tactical gear to search for Terry, Florida television station WPLG reported. He was arrested about 90 minutes later in an industrial area.
Terry was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and his case has been turned over to the local District Attorney's Office.
Terry has not yet entered a plea to the charges and could face years in prison if convicted.
In an unrelated case, Terry was previously charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm in an occupied building, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed firearm in 2018.
He pleaded no contest to the case last year, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
Florida authorities confiscate slot machines
A raid on an alleged illegal gambling operation led to the arrest of two suspects at a Florida amusement park on Wednesday.
Computers, cash and more than 60 slot machines were seized during a court-ordered search of the Moonlight Express arcade in Roseland, Florida. The store was closed by local officials.
The Gambling Raid was conducted by the Indian River County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Gaming Control Commission.
Officials warned the arcade to stop illegal gambling, and authorities said the company temporarily halted illegal operations but later resumed them. Officials say there is a risk of related crime in gambling operations.
