Casino crime summary: Arson leads to arrest

A former employee was recently arrested in connection with an "intentional fire" that occurred last week at the Desert Rose Casino in Alturas, California, authorities said.

Calob Matthew Gersalia, 25, is accused of intentionally setting the fire around 8 a.m. last Thursday, California television station KNVN reported. Jessalia is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Several firefighters were on scene to put out the blaze, which was confined to the casino offices.

The Modoc County Sheriff's Office arrested Jesalia after reviewing surveillance footage and conducting an investigation. Calfire is also involved in the investigation, the Sierra Daily News reported.

Surveillance video showed someone wearing a hoodie and jeans at the scene. It's unclear if the person in the video is the suspect who was arrested.

Detroit MGM Big Prostitution

Nine suspects were recently arrested for their alleged involvement in prostitution and human trafficking rings in the Detroit area and other locations. Authorities say they used rooms at the MGM Grand in Detroit as part of a criminal ring.

The human trafficking ring was exposed after authorities searched two hotel rooms at the MGM Resorts in Detroit, five spas and two homes in Troy and Livonia, Michigan, authorities said Monday.

A total of 42 court-authorized searches were conducted as part of the year-long investigation, according to Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.

Xiaohong Ban, 52, of Chicago, was arrested at a casino last Wednesday and charged with notorious prostitution/domestic charges.

Authorities are also looking for two other suspects, 31-year-old Lori Cai of Troy and 41-year-old Shuying Ding of Appleton, Wisconsin. The arrest warrants charge them with prostitution/indecent occupancy, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Two women and a 25-year-old man were also arrested and handed over to U.S. Border Patrol for overstaying their visas, Hurriyet reported. Five other women, ages 32 to 58, were charged with misdemeanors.

Authorities believe the money collected by the prostitution ring was spent at an undisclosed casino in Detroit.

Authorities seized approximately $35,000 in U.S. dollars, $67,000 in Canadian dollars, 22 cellphones, a laptop and a tablet during the raid, the report said.

Authorities said the illegal activity had stopped and that they were continuing to investigate in the hope of finding more victims of human trafficking and illegal operators.

Turning Point Inc., an organization that assists victims of human trafficking, provided assistance to the victims of this operation.

Meth Arrest

An Indiana man was arrested Sunday for allegedly leaving a backpack containing illegal drugs unattended in Barre-Evansville.

Anthony Barron, 40, of Henderson, Indiana, was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, Indiana television station WFIE reported.

Police said the backpack contained approximately 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine and five empty baggies.

Barron told authorities he purchased the meth on a gaming website for $300.

He was arrested and sent to prison. As of Sunday, no bail had been released.
