Casino crime summary: $700,000 embezzlement charges dropped

Prosecutors this week dropped corruption charges against a cashier at the Four Winds Casino in Hartford, Michigan.

The defendant, Danika Young, 38,, was arrested on July 30 for allegedly stealing $700,000 from a gaming facility, Michigan TV station WOOD reports. She faces up to 20 years in prison.

Young claims she received a call and was asked to give money to a person in Gary, Indiana. A police officer testified during a July 31 probable cause hearing that after receiving the call, she counted out $700,000, put it in a bag and left the casino.

It's unclear why Van Buren County prosecutors dropped the charges.

Relief about this decision

“She was agitated,” Caleb Grimes, a criminal defense attorney representing Young, told The Wood. "Her family is excited. She feels hugely validated. Her belief that she did nothing wrong has never wavered from the beginning."

After speaking with everyone, they were satisfied that she had done nothing wrong and was not involved in any criminal activity," Grimes added.

Young has worked for Four Winds for 16 years and has relatives in the area, including a child.

A nefarious plan may have targeted Young and used artificial intelligence (AI) to suspect the call came from a casino executive inside the casino, WOOD reports.

Four Winds Casino Hartford is located in Hartford, Michigan, approximately 80 miles south of Grand Rapids. The playground is one of four owned and operated by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians.

Nude Casino Visitors File Complaint

A man who entered Oklahoma's First Council casino naked pleaded guilty in court Wednesday. Norman Rhodes pleaded guilty to violating public decency, Oklahoma television station KOKH reported.

During the incident, Rhodes also jumped on the casino hotel's security counter, according to police.

If Rod completes probation, he will not spend any time in jail. The judge sentenced him to one year's probation and 12 months' supervision. Roode must also undergo a mental health evaluation, complete 60 hours of community service and pay court costs, KOKH reported.

ARREST REPORT

When police arrived, Rhodes was sitting on a couch in the casino hotel lobby. He was wearing a torn shirt and a towel, local online news outlet Kay NewsCow reported. He told police he wasn't wearing any clothes because he was hot, KOKH reported. Police said Rhodes also colored in a coloring book given to him by hotel staff.

When police searched the property, they found four pairs of sweatpants belonging to Rhodes. A fifth pair was found in a microwave.

Emergency crews examined Rhodes at the scene and determined he had taken drugs or medications that may have affected his behavior, KOKH reported.
