Casino Berlin ready for Kudamm debut
Renowned casino, Spielbank Berlin, is gaining attention with its new location on Kurfürstendamm set to open on May 1st. The previous location on Los-Angeles-Platz will be vacated. Due to Covid-19, the new casino will only open with strict hygiene and protective measures in place. Casino manager Gerhard Wilhelm discusses the current situation.
1,000 Square Meter Casino
Spielbank Berlin has several locations in Berlin: the headquarters at Potsdamer Platz, others at Altstädter Ring, Fernsehturm, and Los-Angeles-Platz. After 37 years, the latter location is now being replaced with a more luxurious location: a new casino will open on Kurfürstendamm, one of Berlin's busiest social areas.
This new casino will be just 800 meters from the old location in the Landmark building on the famous boulevard. The new casino will have a casino area of approximately 1,000 square meters. There will be six tables on the upper floor for classic games like roulette, baccarat, and blackjack. Additionally, there will be 40 roulette terminals.
On the ground floor, there will be 100 slot machines and a wide variety of food and beverage outlets to enhance the visitor experience. Wilhelm states that Spielbank Berlin and Kurfürstendamm are a perfect fit - an elite environment that can provide a metropolitan gaming experience.
Spielbank Berlin was established in 1975 in the Europa-Center. After the Berlin Wall fell, the company expanded and moved to Potsdamer Platz in 1998. The casino is known not only for providing gambling but also for its support of sport, culture, and social causes. Weekly charitable campaigns have previously been held, including those related to local sports clubs, the fight against HIV, and the Arbeiter-Samarita-Bund (ASB). The casino welcomes around 600,000 visitors annually.
Ideally Located: Kurfürstendamm
Kurfürstendamm is one of Berlin's arteries and a renowned street worldwide. A hub for tourism, trade, and gastronomy, the Kudamm is visited annually by millions of people. The street boasts a diverse range of shopping, dining, cultural, and architectural attractions. Wilhelm deems the new branch's location as perfect, stating that it belongs right there.
Despite the coronavirus crisis, renovation work was carried out rapidly, wrapping up in record time. Wilhelm appreciates the efforts made by everyone involved and acknowledges the excellent support provided by Glien Invest GmbH.
Restricted Gaming Operations due to Coronavirus
Although the new establishment is scheduled to open on May 1st, it will only do so under stringent hygiene and safety protocols to prevent Covid-19 infections. Wilhelm pointed out that the measures and lockdowns have impacted the casino significantly. Since June 2020, a proposed hygiene and safety concept has been in place, including social distancing, masks, and limited visitor numbers. Wilhelm expressed hope for a collective recovery.
Despite the current limitations, Wilhelm expects a gradual return to normal operations as case numbers decrease. However, the protection of employees and visitors is a top priority.
Celebrating 45 Years in Berlin
The casino celebrated its 45th anniversary in October 2020 amid the pandemic, demonstrating its deep connection to Berlin. Spielbank Berlin has been associated with Berlin's sports from the start. Founded by sports legend Gustav Jaenecke in 1975, the casino has supported numerous Berlin sports clubs, cultural events, and institutions - including the ISTAF international stadium festival, the Füchse Berlin, the BR Volleys, ALBA Berlin, Eisbären, Hertha BSC, 1. FC Union Berlin, and several other popular sports clubs.
Although a big celebration was not possible, the company expressed its commitment to Berlin.
