Football game being discussed. - Carl Zeiss Jena secures their 15th triumph in the Thuringia state cup.
FC Carl Zeiss Jena emerged victorious yet again in the Thuringia Cup, winning for the 15th time. They defeated regional league rivals ZFC Meuselwitz 4-0 (3-0) on Saturday. Elias Löder (5th, 11th minute) got the favorites off to a flying start with a double strike. Pasqual Verkamp scored the third goal in the 38th minute with a header, further cementing Carl Zeiss Jena's position as the champions. Löder sealed their victory in the 61st minute in front of 4406 witnesses. This success meant Jena finished the cup season with a spotless record, scoring 19 goals and conceding none.
ZFC Meuselwitz, led by the top scorer in the regional league who was Löder (25 goals), failed to recover from the early disadvantage. The favorites dominated the first half, creating many opportunities. ZFC goalkeeper Lukas Sedlak was their saving grace in goal, single-handedly preventing a bigger deficit. It was the hosts' lack of offensive prowess that cost them dearly throughout the game. Andy Trübenbach had the closest attempt for ZFC in the dying embers of the first half.
After the break, Jena continued to assert their dominance. Despite this, Meuselwitz attempted to mount a comeback and create some visual entertainment. However, they were unable to trouble the Carl Zeiss Jena side. Löder ruled out any chance of a comeback with his sixth goal in the tournament. Jena cooled down the game after that, yet still managed to remain a threat. [The End]
