Canadian casinos have to close due to burst pipes

British Columbia The Playtime Casino on Water Street in Kelowna was flooded by water this week. Water pipes burst, spilling water onto the ground and outside the building.

Kelowna Capital News reports that flooding closed the playground for about half an hour on Sunday afternoon. According to local news outlets, local firefighters were called to reports of broken sprinkler heads at the property around 3:30 p.m.

After the water was purified, visitors were allowed to return to the gaming floor and the casino continued normal operations Monday.

Freeze pipe

According to the local online news site Castanet, the burst pipe caused water from the second floor of the playground to flow to Water Street.

The casino has not released an official damage estimate, but estimates the cost of repairs will be minimal. No injuries were reported.

Clarissa Pruden, the casino's general manager, told the news site that pipes between the casino's kitchen and parking lot froze due to the cold. Temperatures in Kelowna will range from 28 to 34 degrees on Sunday, AccuWeather reports.

Playtime Casino Kelowna offers over 450 slots and table games, including Blackjack, Electronic Roulette, Ultimate Texas Hold'em and EZ Baccarat.

Kelowna is located approximately 242 miles east of Vancouver, Canada.

Eyewitness Report

Casino visitor Clinton Wood told Castanet he was playing table games on Sunday afternoon when an alarm went off and police ordered all patrons to leave the casino.

There was water all over the street below the parking lot," Wood recalled. "We had a really nice car wash. All these people were making a lot of money, and then the alarm went off. I joke that we make too much money. "

He added that "quite a lot of people" were playing table games and slot machines at the time.
