California man arrested for trying to rob card player
Four suspects have been charged after an attempted robbery in a man's driveway Thursday night. He had just returned home to Southern California from an evening at a popular card room.
Two of the suspects apparently followed the man at the Comos Casino in Comos, California.
Once there, the masked robbers produced what turned out to be a replica handgun and demanded cash from the Irvine residents.
The man's 11-year-old son heard a commotion outside and went out to help his father. When the two robbers saw the boy, they fled the area.
The victim was tracked about 32 miles from the playground to his home around 10 p.m.
The victim lived in a gated community in Irvine's Northwood neighborhood. Visitors must pass through a security gate to enter the complex. However, the would-be robbers apparently drove their vehicle near the victim and opened the gate, giving them access to the home, Los Angeles television station KNBC reported.
Victim pleads for life
When the victim reached the driveway, he exited the vehicle.
Two suspects approached him and demanded cash.
excuse me. Don't kill me and my family here. ” the victim said to the robber.
Just 30 seconds later, the 11-year-old boy opened the door and left the home.
I'm so proud of him for being so brave," the boy's mother told KNBC. "He was the one who made them afraid, but if they had been other criminals, things could have been very different. "
It's unclear whether the victim won the jackpot at the game room. Police also did not say why the suspect chose this man to follow him home and then rob him.
Little information on suspect
All four suspects live in Los Angeles County. Police did not initially release their names or ages. Her charges are also unknown.
Neither the boy nor his father were injured in the incident.
The victim's mother was relieved that both her son and husband survived the ordeal and wondered if there was anything her husband could have done differently Thursday night.
Part of me was angry with my husband for not looking in the rearview mirror, but who does that when they score a goal? " she told KNBC. "You've stolen my husband's car before. He couldn't get in. So why would he think anyone else could do it? "
Police did not identify the victim, his wife or the couple's son.
