Caesars Palace Suspect Agrees to Admit Guilt in Gambling Scam

A man who was allegedly holding a hostage hostage in a room at Caesars Palace Las Vegas and throwing furniture out of the window will admit to reduced charges, his lawyer stated. Matthew Mannix, 35, is expected to plead guilty to malicious destruction of property and reckless endangerment at a court hearing on Wednesday, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. His original charges included first-degree kidnapping, coercion with a deadly weapon, destruction of property, and disregarding the safety of persons or property.

Mannix is also due to pay $55,292 in restitution to the hotel following an incident that occurred on July 11. He allegedly threatened to shoot police and cut out the tongue of the hostage during the standoff. He's also facing charges in Colorado.

On Monday, a California defendant was found guilty of murder after killing his partner in an online casino operation. Lucifer Darnell Pierce, 41, is set to receive between 50 years to life in prison for shooting Mubarek Alnajar, who was allegedly stealing money from the business. Pierce had been acquitted of first-degree murder in the 1999 murder of Leslie Ahart but was convicted and imprisoned on other counts. Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer commented that, "Not content to cease his violent ways, Lucifer Pierce took a life shortly after being released from prison. This conviction should result in a life sentence that will ensure decades in prison before Pierce is even considered for parole eligibility."

On Monday, a man held up a hotel room at Reno's Boomtown Hotel and Casino for around three hours before eventually surrendering to police negotiators. The individual, who has not been identified, was believed to have scaled the building and moved from balcony to balcony before entering one of the rooms. Police officers were notified around 8:50 am. The cause for the invasion was unclear. The man was later booked into the Washoe County Jail, facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and home invasion.

On July 30, there was a shooting outside of Caesars Palace Las Vegas that was spurred by an argument over beer. The victim and another man got into an altercation at a bus stop near the gaming property. The victim was taken to University Medical Center, where he underwent treatment for a bullet wound in his arm that passed through and became trapped in his abdomen. Dwayne Brown, 31, was revealed to be the suspect. Brown was arrested on August 5 during astop at a convenience store near Flamingo Road and Arville Street. He resisted arrest and carried a silver revolver when apprehended. Brown is charged with attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and discharging a firearm in a densely populated region according to Las Vegas Review-Journal.

A man was taken into custody after spending three hours on different balconies in a room at Reno’s Boomtown Hotel and Casino. Before surrendering to police negotiators, the suspect faced four counts of assault with a deadly weapon and a charge of home invasion. The reason for the break-in remained unclear.

A victim received treatment for a gunshot wound to the arm, which ended up in his abdomen.
