At the end of the season like no other, - Bundesliga team needs to move locations for European Football Tournament.
In February, SC DHfK Leipzig couldn't play at home as the Quarterback Immobilien Arena was taken up by track and field athletes and other events. Now the Bundesliga club has to move again because their training hall won't be available for weeks.
Reason: European Football Championship! Bundesliga Team Needs to Relocate
The reason behind this is the upcoming European Football Championships. Leipzig will be hosting three preliminary round matches and one round of 16 match in June and July. Although there's still some time before these events, space is already being prepared for journalists and volunteers from all over the world.
DHfK's managing director, Karsten Günther (42), said, "It's tough when you have limited sports hall capacity. But that seems to be the cost of hosting a European Football Championship. However, we have managed to find workable solutions together with the city. It's not ideal, but we'll make do."
Currently, players are training in the playing hall of HC Leipzig's women's second-division team in Brüderstraße. At least, the training session before the game against HSV Hamburg (Saturday, 6 pm) can take place on the arena's large pitch.
Head Coach Runar Sigtryggsson (52) is unfazed: "The training conditions are basically the same. The only thing that has changed is our video session. We've shifted it a day because it's just more convenient in our surroundings. It's okay. We can adapt to that." Fortunately, only four matches remain until the end of the season, and the final sprint is on.
