Political Gatherings - BSW establishes regional organization in Brandenburg.

The newly formed party Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) is establishing a state division in Brandenburg and preparing for the state elections in just four months. Approximately 40 members will convene this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Schwedt, Uckermark, for a private gathering.

BSW national chairwoman Amira Mohamed Ali shared with dpa that they are ready to make a mark in Brandenburg. The formation of the state association is a vital step in establishing the party throughout the nation. Mohamed Ali, a member of the Bundestag, is anticipated to attend the launch event in Schwedt this weekend.

If elections were held on Sunday, the alliance would secure 13 percent of the votes, according to a survey conducted by the Insa Institute for the "Märkische Allgemeine," "Märkische Oderzeitung," and "Lausitzer Rundschau."

At the event, the party will make personnel decisions and elect a state executive board. Robert Crumbach, an ex-SPD member and labor judge, will be in charge of the BSW in Brandenburg. Stefan Roth, former Left Party member in Brandenburg, is set to become Brandenburg's state director for the BSW. The state list, utilized to identify candidates for the parliament, will be decided at a later time.

Plans are in place for the BSW to contest in the European elections in June and the state elections in the fall. The party already has state associations in Saxony, Thuringia, and Saarland. BSW first came into existence in January as a federal party, with the stated goal of offering voters an alternative to the "traffic light" parties and CDU and AfD. In an April poll conducted by Infratest dimap for RBB, the alliance picked up 10 percent in Brandenburg.

Chairwoman Mohamed Ali revealed that the BSW enjoys a wide range of support from people across different backgrounds. Key concerns include education, housing, health, and energy policies. Additionally, she mentioned the uncertain future of the PCK oil refinery in Schwedt. "Peace policy will also be a significant theme in our election campaign," she added.

Mohamed Ali acknowledged that the BSW is a young party and may not be ready to set up campaign stands across the board yet.

Brandenburg's CDU leader, Jan Redmann, remains casual and critical of the BSW's participation in the state elections. He predicted, "As the BSW becomes clearer in terms of personnel and content, their poll ratings will decrease." Redmann stated that the alliance currently serves as a mirror for many people, reflecting their desires and aspirations.

The CDU will host a modest party conference on Saturday to adopt its government program for the upcoming state elections. Based on Insa's recent survey, the SPD and CDU are level, trailing behind the AfD, which received 25 percent support. The SPD and CDU would both receive 19 percent if elections were to take place on that day.
