British magician banned from betting in UK casinos
British magician and psychic Derren Brown was recently banned from a Birmingham casino over concerns he was using his power for detrimental purposes and grossly exploiting casino operators.
Persona non grata
Brown and his friends decided to roll the dice at the Broadway Plaza Casino shortly after the national treasure wrapped up a live performance of his "Notorious" show in the area. However, once Brown's prominent face was recognized, he was informed by staff that he would not be allowed to place bets in person and would be demoted to spectator status.
This isn't the first casino to tremble at the sight of con men, who are known for their card-counting skills and persuasiveness. In fact, it's thought that Brown has been banned from nearly every casino in the country because of his well-known skills, so he certainly wasn't surprised when he was told he wasn't allowed to participate.
"I went in after the show and sat down to play blackjack. They were very nice and offered me food, but they wouldn't let me play," the psychiatrist said. "So I watched other people for a while and then left. I was escorted out by a member of staff and the manager."
Supernatural Powers
For those familiar with Darren Brown's talents, it's no wonder he strikes fear into casino operators, as his deceit and subterfuge lead one person to believe the world has ended and zombies roam the earth, while another believes he's Where he was on a plane about to crash and he had to land it himself, he even played live Russian roulette and lived to tell the story.
He has also shown great card counting skills, demonstrating on several television appearances that he can memorize the order of a deck of cards after moving them back and forth in front of his eyes for a few seconds.
If he were allowed to play in a casino, it would be difficult for someone as talented as Brown not to use this rare skill to his advantage, something that would surely make casino owners tremble at the knees. After all, they don’t want to change the “banker always wins” rule.
