Britain initiates first Rwanda deportation of an asylum seeker.

A man reportedly flew to Rwanda as part of a different program. At the end of 2023, his asylum request was turned down according to multiple sources. He consented to fly to Kigali. This individual hails from an African nation. He made the journey to Kigali on a regular flight, according to The Sun. For leaving the UK, he was allegedly paid up to £3,000 (approximately €3,500), as stated by The Times.

The British Home Office didn't verify the claims when questioned by AFP news agency. The UK government official mentioned that the country is now able to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda. The new deportation policy will enable people without immigration status in the UK "to be resettled in a secure third country where they can rebuild their lives."

Just before the first reported deportation to Rwanda, the British Home Office established a goal of relocating 5,700 individuals to Rwanda by the conclusion of the year. Rwanda consented to this "in principle," it continued.

People who enter the country illegally are now able to be deported to Rwanda regardless of where they're from and without their asylum application being reviewed. Rwanda has been categorized as a safe third country for this reason.

In the future, asylum applications will be examined by the Rwandan government in Kigali. In the event that they're approved, the refugees will be granted the opportunity to stay in the East African country and won't be permitted to return to the UK. The government intends for deportations to start by July.

Reports of the asylum seeker sent to Rwanda surfaced two days before local elections in England and Wales. The Conservative Party, the current ruling party, is predicted to suffer considerable defeats to the Labour Party. The Tory administration hopes that these deportations will help their party escape its polling downturn.

The UK government intends for the deportations to deter migrants. According to official data, over 57,000 people made their way to the UK in small boats across the English Channel between January 2022 and June 2023. Within the first four months of this year, more than 7,200 individuals entered the country this way - a new record.
