Bristol, Virginia casino closed due to equipment failure

Update: Bristol Casino in Virginia reopens on Saturday. There was no detailed explanation as to why it would be closed for several hours starting Friday evening,

Previously; Bristol Casino was temporarily closed on Friday evening as staff needed to repair equipment. Officials have not said when they will reopen.

The property in Bristol, Virginia, was evacuated as a result. This move is required by Virginia Lottery rules.

We look forward to reopening and welcoming our guests as soon as possible and apologize for the inconvenience,” the casino wrote on Facebook.

The casino is located near the Virginia-Tennessee state line. Hard Rock International, owned and operated by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, is converting the former shopping center into the Hard Rock Casino.

Social media reports have been mixed

Posters on social media provided more details.

As we pulled into the parking lot, we were turned around [and] told we had to leave, they were having trouble with the power and the lights were out,” A photo labeled Diane Curtis said the Tarnes poster.

Starnes added that based on unofficial statements he's heard from casino companies, it could take several hours for casinos to reopen.

I heard from a landlord that they will not be reopening tonight. Maybe... [Saturday] or even Sunday," said another poster, Chris Turner. "But I've heard a lot of different stories, but this is the latest I've gotten. "

Poster Zachary Wheeler said a moderator told him "they can't reopen until the VA lottery gives them the green light."

Other posters said they were inconvenienced by the sudden closure.

Player loses money

Posters on social media also made it clear how much money they had lost due to the incident.

"I had to leave money in the ATM because they closed the ATM and I was told I had to leave with everyone else," Karen Montgomery said. "I even left my card in the machine Here. I hope they do it right or I'll never go back."

Jayden McLeod said he was at a restaurant in the casino complex Friday night.

"Went to Mr. Lucky's house for dinner. When I came back everyone had been swiped. Our driving licenses had to be scanned. I was asked to leave after 10 minutes. Four cleaners with mops while they wandered around Buckets walked into the casino. Only 3 came out. A few minutes later I was told to evacuate the property."

On Friday night, poster Mollie Tipton had a simple request for Bristol Casino:

"Can you guys tell us when we can reopen so people aren't just wondering if it's soon or tomorrow? Giving "zero" idea when things will be fixed is very unprofessional and will cost you a lot of business. "
