Now, it's confirmed! - Borussia Dortmund introduces new youth team manager
Official news now!
Broich takes over from Ricken, who received a promotion. Since May, Ricken has been the Managing Director of Sports at Borussia Dortmund. He was formerly in charge of the youth development department.
The news was revealed that Broich would assume a significant role in BVB's youth academy. He walked around the grounds of BVB with Ricken at the end of April and was shown his new working space.
Starting from the summer, Broich will be in control of the youth teams, acting as a sports director, while Ricken continues to oversee the youth department as its new leader.
In the press release from BVB, Broich mentioned, "My discussions with Lars Ricken were filled with agreement on his vision for the future and my ideas. Like BVB's youth academy, I am fully committed to continually refining our training concepts and playing styles. I am thrilled to help shape this journey with everyone involved."
Broich was at Hertha BSC before joining Dortmund. He retired as a player at the end of the season in April.
At Hertha BSC, Broich collaborated with all coaches from the U9 to the U19 (and sometimes the U23) in implementing a unified 4-3-3 system. He employed data analysis to instruct various tactical emphases. He was also involved in scouting new talent. Now, BVB is his new venture.
Ricken stated, "Thomas has a burning passion for fostering young talent and has vast experience as a Bundesliga and international professional. During his time in Frankfurt and Berlin, he acquired invaluable knowledge about the training of upcoming players. Additionally, he is known for his TV commentary and has demonstrated his soccer expertise in these areas, broadening the spectrum of football expertise."
