"Avoid making rash remarks" - Boldt leaves Baumgart's future undecided

Five spots away from a spot in the relegation play-offs (Düsseldorf). In game 34, Robert Glatzel (30) was the only one left in the running to claim the Golden Boot (22 goals) and the team established a new all-time attendance record (an average of 55,906 spectators). Sadly for his club, two punches to the eye followed.

Sporting director Jonas Boldt (42): "Finishing in fourth place is a major letdown."

So what's next?

The management crew is undecided about who should run the upcoming season.

Boldt (contracted until 2025) assumes he'll still be a fixture in the team while Baumgart (contracted until 2025) expects to maintain their partnership. However, the dawdling actions of the board mean their planning is currently frozen.

Glatzel, who has included an escape clause in his contract until 2027, comments on his future circumstances: "I can't reach a verdict on this just yet. It'll take a few days. It's also reliant on what transpires here."

The situation's obvious: There's a ton to discuss due to the unsettling seasonal performance. Boldt: "We weren't even close to being the best in any specific area - it starts from the top and ripples down across different sections. I'm frequently in touch with the board."

Boldt left Baumgart's position uncertain: "I've advocated for Steffen Baumgart to manage this club. I enjoy talking with him regularly. I can picture him envisaging things differently when he first started here."

And: "It's indecipherable in one direction or the other; it's simply a normal sequence of events. I reckon it's advisable to hold off on any rash comments after a season as dismal as this. The gulf to the top has been too vast to bridge. There have been far too many games that didn't proceed as planned."

While Boldt remains hopeful for the supervisory board's decree, Baumgart (only managed 20 points from twelve contests) anticipates a second chance.

The head coach: "While it might sound odd, there are no unanswered queries in my mind. Jonas and I are talking daily. It's not about whether or not he'll stick around. Our journey continues. From my viewpoint, it'll continue with him as well. There's 100% certainty in that."

As Boldt awaits the supervisory board's verdict ("it's always crucial that the building blocks are installed sequentially"), Baumgart anticipates another chance at the helm.
