Uninterested in the rescue? - Bochum's take on the league catastrophe revealed!

VfL Bochum is facing relegation against Düsseldorf after losing 4-1 at Werder Bremen. Even with a 5-point lead and two games remaining, it's not enough in the end. Mainz and Union both win their final game, leaving Bochum to descend in dismay.

In the pivotal league game, did Bochum not even try to recover?

There was no clear explanation following the final whistle...

Team Captain Anthony Losilla (38): "We just couldn't pull it off. We obviously didn't give it our all today. I don't think it was intentional. It's painful, it just wasn't good enough. Now we have to pick ourselves back up and remain positive."

Deputy Captain Kevin Stöger (30): "This performance is intolerable. We can't let ourselves fall behind due to a set piece, considering our height advantage. Then everything fell apart. It's a slap in the face. Offensively, we were lacking, no one wanted control of the ball, it seemed like everyone was passing the blame. We'll be heading home with a grim expression, then we'll examine the game. From tomorrow, the day after, we'll be positive again."

Sporting Director Marc Lettau (38): "It's perplexing, there's no reason for it. That was brutal. It clearly had nothing to do with VfL football today. It was mainly about dealing with pressure. We weren't equipped to handle it today."

Head Coach Heiko Butscher (43): "We're feeling very disappointed and are now looking into the reasons. There were no signs of it in practice. We can still be disappointed today, but then we have to snap out of it quickly and get our act together. We'll make a few adjustments and do better against Düsseldorf."

Otherwise, we're dropping down to League 2, despite an excellent beginning. There was no apparent reason for VfL Bochum's loss.
