Blue Ivy joins mother Beyoncé in upcoming 'Lion King' spin-off project.

In the prequel to the 1994 hit "The Lion King," several actors from the 2019 Jon Favreau-directed remake reprise their roles, including John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala. The latest version also features a cast member from the Carter family, with Beyoncé's 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, voicing Kiara, the child of King Simba and Queen Nala.

The trailer starts with a voiceover from Rafiki: "This tale begins beyond the mountains and the shadows, on the opposite side of the light. A lion was born without a drop of nobility in his veins. A lion who would transform our lives forever."

We're introduced to a young Mufasa, who was previously represented as an adult and voiced by James Earl Jones in the original animated film.

The caption for the teaser explains, "In 'Mufasa: The Lion King,' Rafiki is tasked with sharing the legend of Mufasa with young lion cub Kiara, Simba and Nala's daughter. Timon and Pumbaa provide their usual antics as the storytellers. Mufasa is introduced as an orphaned cub, having been lost and alone until he encounters a sympathetic lion named Taka - the heir to a royal bloodline. This encounter triggers an amazing journey for a motley crew of friends determined to achieve their destiny. Their relationships will be put to the test as they collaborate to dodge a formidable and dangerous enemy."

Directed by Barry Jenkins, the movie also stars Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka, Thandiwe Newton as Taka's mother, Eshe, Anika Noni Rose as Mufasa's mother, Afia, and Keith David as Mufasa's father, Masego.

The movie is set to release in December.
