International Ice Hockey Tournament - Blitz, one of our runners, competes against Sweden.
Fabio Wagner might be seeing action on defense. Likely, Nico Sturm and Maksy Szuber won't make an appearance until their match with Latvia on Wednesday (4:20 pm). Szuber might be taking a longer break. He sustained an injury to his wrist when hit by a stick during the game against Slovakia (6-4). Sturm's knee injury, involving the inner ligament, appears to be healed. National coach Harry Kreis is being cautious: "We're glad everyone's back in training, but we won't press for anything." In essence, they won't risk anyone for the World Cup.
The Germans know they need to be at the top of their game to score against the strong Swedish squad.
German coach Kreis: "The team's spirit is upbeat. Sweden is a team with excellent disc handling. It's crucial to shut them down in the middle and wait for our opportunities."
The team captain, Moritz Müller, added, "We have to play more patiently defensively. We want to improve in every game."
During the 2023 World Cup in Finland, Germany narrowly lost to Sweden 0-1, marking their seventh consecutive defeat to the Tre Kronors. In Ostrava on Monday, a sturdy defense will be paramount.
Swedish NHL players competing in the World Championship earn a whopping $75.74 million (€69.91 million). In contrast, the German team has only $11.92 million (€11.05 million).
