Four employees sustain injuries in the Northeim area. - Blast at biogas facility
Around noon on Tuesday, responders were summoned to a biogas facility in Hardegsen, Northeim district, Lower Saxony due to a mysterious explosion within a fermenter. This caused the foil sheathing the silos to catch fire, and the fierce winds carried the sparks to more storage units, resulting in an extended fight against the blaze that persisted until the afternoon.
The root of the deflagration remains unknown, but a police spokesperson revealed, "Two workers were severely wounded by the blast and had to undergo airlift to specialized medical centers courtesy of a rescue helicopter. Two minor injuries were reported and the patients were transported to nearby hospitals."
The financial impact of this tragic incident is yet to be established, and the authorities continue to research further.
