Emergency Nail Gives Way to Nagelsmann - Bild presents the story of Pavlovic.
Aleksandar Pavlovic, a 20-year-old player from Bayern's youth team, received a call-up to represent his country in the European Championship after impressing national coach Julian Nagelsmann. The announcement was made on RTL, during a segment known as "Salami Announcement Week."
A year ago, Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel had expressed interest in signing a new defender, stating that "we still have a few days, maybe we'll do something - and if not, then we'll use Aleks from our U23s." At the time, Pavlovic had yet to make his professional debut.
Despite this, his training performances caught the attention of the coaches. He played with confidence, appeared unphased by the presence of the team's big names, and even challenged established players during training sessions. Pavlovic often trained with superstars Müller and Goretzka, as well as other Bayern stars, and his father Dejan, a former player who followed his son's entire career, was often present to watch.
When Tuchel couldn't secure a new defender, Pavlovic was given a chance. His first professional appearance came in October, quickly followed by his first contract and his first starting eleven appearance. He scored his first goal in January. In March, following impressive performances in the Bundesliga, he was shortlisted for the national team, but he had to pull out due to tonsillitis.
After the club's Champions League semi-final match, Pavlovic was included in the European Championship squad. His dedication to the game and unwillingness to complain earned him support from his teammates, including Muller and Goretzka, who wasn't selected for the tournament because of Pavlovic.
The club values Pavlovic's commitment to the game, as he always gives his best, and the fact that he's a local talent, having joined the Bayern academy when he was only 7 years old. Pavlovic's rise to the European Championship squad completes a storybook season.
