According to media outlets, a high-end Harry Winston shop on the renowned Champs-Élysées is affected. The American luxury jewelry brand boasts the title of "jeweler to the stars."
One of the robbers, donning black attire, allegedly wielded a long-range weapon. A bullet was fired outside the store, although there were no casualties, as per AFP news agency, quoting investigators. This could have been a warning shot.
The thieves likely made off with a significant amount of valuables during the robbery. Investigators estimate the haul could be worth many millions. Nonetheless, the authorities have not yet disclosed any official details. A manhunt is currently underway for the robbers.
The Harry Winston store in Paris had encountered robberies before, in 2007 and 2008. In those incidents, the criminals purloined over 900 pieces of jewelry. The damage incurred was approximately €78.9 million. In 2015, a group of eight culprits was arrested and sentenced to terms ranging from nine months to 15 years in prison.
