Report on Poland - Bias referee needs to officiate our first game in the Euros. Spinnovedt ^{[1]}
In the Champions League semi-final second leg at Real Madrid, a significant error occurred in the 14th minute of additional time, when Matthijs de Ligt scored what seemed like the equalizer for Bayern Munich. However, the game was already being interrupted. The referee, Marciniak, had already blown the whistle for offside.
This controversial decision drew criticism from all corners, as the goal could have potentially sent the game into extra time.
"Przegląd Sportowy," a popular Polish sports newspaper, has now reported an even more shocking revelation. Marciniak was initially set to referee Poland's opening match of the European Championship against Scotland on June 14 — unbelievably, in Munich of all places. However, due to this recent mistep in Madrid, the likelihood of him officiating the match has significantly decreased.
Despite his excellent performance in whistling the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France, and his stellar history with Bayern Munich, Marciniak's decisions during the match against Real Madrid appear to have tainted his chances of refereeing future DFB games during the tournament.
With a notable history of refereeing Bayern Munich matches at the 2016 European Championship and the 2018 World Cup, including their victory over Slovakia in the 16th round of the Euros and over Sweden in the group stages of the World Cup, fans may still see Marciniak on the pitch. But likely not during the opening game of the European Championship …
However, it has been confirmed that Marciniak will indeed referee a game this weekend: Lech Poznan's match against Legia Warsaw. The announcement was made by the Polish Football Association on Thursday.
