NDR talk show absent from television due to labor union strike - Bettina Tietjen hosts a live broadcast with her guests on Instagram.
The cause of the situation is a long-standing wage dispute between ver.di and NDR, where ver.di wanted to hold a warning strike for several days until the Whitsunday, while NDR recently offered only 2.25% wage increase. The employees are trying to send a message against the real wage loss proposed by NDR in the ongoing wage negotiatons.
Regardless of this, host Bettina Tietjen and her guest co-presenter Martin Rütter didn't want their audience to be disappointed. They gathered their panel with journalist Ulrich Wickert, food influencer Stefano Zarrella, comedy star Ilka Bessin, and soccer expert Felix Kroos early on Friday evening and decided to broadcast via cell phone cameras on Instagram live stream.
The whole setup might've been unconventional, but they managed to have a casual chat with each other and the guests, showcasing a comfortable vibe.
This evening had a particular significance for Martin Rütter personally as he'd always desired to host this show. He even joked a bit about it on Instagram: "I'm really looking forward to it. Everyone in the family teases me because I've always said: 'I would love to do this one day'. I've somehow forced my way into it. I've told the editors when I was a guest here: 'Well, if someone drops out, ask me.'"
