Fissures in the walls appear! - Berlin's apartment block is cleared out.
The cops eventually had to clear out the place, which also serves as a nursery. Around twenty residents had to stay with friends and relatives until further notice. Experts checked out the harm. Spokesperson for the district authority Eva Majewski provided an update after inquiry: "During the following examination, destruction was found in the basement and underground parking. The floor slabs had shifted somewhat or sank and water had leaked in."
By noon, things were all clear: renters were allowed back inside and the highway was reopened. The district office stated that the damage didn't jeopardize the building's structural integrity.
It's only been a month since another apartment building on Goltzstraße in Schöneberg had to be evacuated. There, too, building work had initiated cracks in the structure.
