Berlin Casino Assists SLZB

Spielbank Berlin has recently shown support for sports in the capital by donating 1,000 euros to the Berlin School and Competitive Sports Center (SLZB). They were also the main sponsor for the ISTAF Indoor athletics event, which broke a record for visitor attendance. Here's a glimpse into what happened:

An Elite Sports Center

Özcan Mutlu, a member of Spielbank's advisory board and the president of the Berlin Disabled and Rehabilitation Sports Association, praised the sponsorship campaign. Citing the importance of supporting talent at both school and sporting levels, the 52-year-old politician (The Greens) played a significant role in securing the donation.

The SLZB, located in Alt-Hohenschönhausen, is a renowned top sports facility in Germany. Founded 51 years ago by the DOSB (German Olympic Sports Confederation), its main aim was to promote the development of young athletes and help them excel. This all-day school concept combines academic activities and sporting achievements.

The SLZB has produced numerous Olympic, world, and European champions, including Robert and Christoph Harting (discus throw), Britta Steffen (swimming), Franziska van Almsick (swimming), Patrick Hausding (water jumping), and Claudia Pechstein (speed skating), among others. The school has amassed an impressive total of 49 gold medals, 52 silver medals, and 74 bronze medals at the Olympic Games.

A Recipe for Success

"The SLZB is a most influential figure in the world of sports in Berlin," says Gerhard Wilhelm, Managing Director of Spielbank. The institution not only boasts impressive accomplishments but is also a valuable contributor to the success of top German sports. Given its winning approach, it's no surprise that it will continue to produce star athletes in the future.

"The secret to the school's success lies in its carefully designed training program," explains the SLZB. Students here receive specialized educational courses in subjects like German, math, and English. Thanks to their nearby training facilities, lessons and training sessions can be easily coordinated, aiding in flexibility. The school's principal, Gudrun Götze, offers this explanation:

"At the SLZB, learning and competitive sports training take place in a positive, engaging environment. This is made possible by positive communication and an inspiring atmosphere."

Özcan Mutlu echoes this: "SLZB has effectively demonstrated what promoting young talent should look like, with numerous top athletes." The school's support ensures that Berlin will always be known for its elite sports scene. The donation will undoubtedly contribute to this and potentially pave the way for future collaborations.

More Than Sports

Founded in 1975, Spielbank Berlin has proved a significant supporter of sports in the capital. In previous years, they sponsored the ISTAF 2019 event and this year, they were the main sponsor for the ISTAF Indoor at the Mercedes Benz Arena. The indoor event took place in late February, with athletes from 25 countries competing in 7 disciplines - discus throw, sprint, and long jump, to name a few.

Gerhard Wilhelm, Spielbank's Managing Director, presented the trophies to the winners. He congratulated them on their performance, calling the event an "absolutely fantastic highlight." The 12,500 fans who attended the event agreed, breaking the record for attendees. Wilhelm describes the sponsorship as "a clear confirmation of our commitment to supporting sports in the capital," highlighting the intriguing partnership between sports and business.

Cultivating the Community

Spielbank Berlin is not just limited to sports; it has a history of involvement in various cultural and social projects. For instance, they recently donated 6,000 euros to the aid organization FrauSuchtZukunft, which supports women with addiction issues. Dr. Ulrike Albrecht-Sonnenschein, a well-known psychologist and advisory board member, initiated the campaign.

Ultimately, Spielbank Berlin remains a committed funder of sports and cultural projects, playing a significant role in Berlin's rich sporting history.

In 2019, a unique funding source emerged for casino advisory panels. This led to a slew of prominent projects where prominent individuals got involved. One such example was when Klaus Wowereit, formerly the mayor of Berlin, banded together in May to combat homophobic violence. The same bank also aided "Geflüchtete Türöffner e. V." in the form of a 5,000 euro check, in collaboration with Left Party politician Gregor Gysi.
