Significant firefighting task underway - Beneath Saarlouis, there's a submerged garage.
While conducting an examination, it was found that an entire floor was "engulfed in water". Since dawn, numerous emergency response teams have been stationed at Saarlouis to remove the water.
In conjunction with the volunteer fire department, the technical aid organization is providing efficient pumps. However, it's not just the water causing issues: there are concerns that toxic gases may have gathered beneath the underground facility. This presents both an explosion danger and a risk of harm to the rescuers.
A big high-efficiency fan from the Dillinger Hütte fire department was thus requisitioned. This equipment will be utilized to vent harmful gases from the garage. Along with the fire department and THW, the rescue service is also present on location.
The extent of the damage remains undisclosed
It may take several hours until all the water has been fully pumped out. The Kaiser-Friedrich-Ring, Lothringer Street, Wall Street, and Handworker Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during this time.
Motorists with local experience should steer clear of the area. Minor details regarding the level of destruction are currently sparse.
