Tom Mickel to remain until 2025. - Beloved HSV supporter renews his deal.

In May 2019, Tom Mickel (aged 35) played his final professional match for HSV, where he maintained a clean sheet for the second-division side against Duisburg. Following his retirement, Mickel continued to engage with the club, aiding and supporting the U21 team with his wealth of experience, often accompanying the team as a reserve goalkeeper on away matches. His positivity and good vibes were highly valued by the club.

Mickel arrived in Hamburg back in 2009, having won the U19 European Championship with Cottbus. Before that, he had also spent time playing for Greuther Fürth between 2013 and 2015. He has always been a consistent member of the team.

Professional Director, Claus Costa, shared, "We place a high value on Tom's presence and his unwavering commitment to the team."

Mickel reflected, "I'm keen to return to the action and give it my all as we pursue our goal for next season."

Recently, Hamburg renewed Mickel's contract and sealed Hannes Hermann's (age 19, U19 national goalkeeper) first professional deal. This means that the team now has six goalkeepers signed for the upcoming season.

Apart from Matheo Raab (age 25) and Daniel Heuer Fernandes (age 31), former Bielefeld goalkeeper Leo Oppermann (age 22) and Rostock's Marko Johansson (age 25) will also be returning from their loan periods.

It is likely that Sporting Director Stefan Kuntz and Costa will move swiftly to secure alternatives for Oppermann and Johansson, as the training pitch could become rather congested if they don't.
