Tension in Upper Bavaria - Beer garden calls off AfD function following menaces.
In a town in Upper Bavaria, AfD fans and their premier European candidate, Maximilian Krah (47), planned to gather for a campaign party on Sunday. However, the venue hired for the event, a beer garden, suddenly decided to cancel it.
The reason given by the landlord, Ercan "Roger" Köse and his family, was that they had received threats. One of their underage sons was physically attacked by strangers wearing masks, and their car was set on fire. As a result, the Köse family called off the AfD's rental booking on Tuesday.
Jurij Kofner, the organizer of the event and secretary of the AfD district association in Miesbach, assured the "Merkur" that another location has been found in Holzkirchen, which is about 20 kilometers away. However, he hasn't yet disclosed the exact place.
Kofner, who sympathizes with Köse's decision to avoid danger, criticized the perpetrators of the threats. "The Schützenwirt, who is of immigrant origin, is with us, but had to cancel the event due to the severe threats he faced," he said. Despite the change of venue, a counter-demonstration with a final rally near the beer garden, originally planned by a local group, will go on as scheduled on Saturday at 2:30 pm.
