Support for Israel - Bebelplatz is renamed as "the square of Hamas captives"
The focal point of historical significance is now known as "Hamas Hostages Square" in protest against the atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists in Israel. Today, 132 empty seats were set up, one for each abducted hostage. Varying from men to women and children, some of them are still young.
Germany is conveying its support for the victims of Hamas who disappeared after the massacre on October 7.
More than 1200 people were cruelly murdered, sexually assaulted, or set on fire by the terrorist organization Hamas when they targeted Israel. At least 239 people were kidnapped in the Gaza Strip, with 132 still in captivity.
Among those held: Carmel Gat (40), kidnapped from Kibbutz Beeri, whose brother Alon (37) attended the memorial's launch. Not only them but his wife, daughter, and mother were also kidnapped by the terrorists. "First, my daughter and I were freed, then my wife. My mother was fatally shot," he said, his voice cracking with emotion. Carrion's 40th birthday was celebrated in terrorist captivity on Wednesday.
A 20-meter-long replica of a Hamas tunnel is also available on the square, symbolizing the horrific living conditions and the fate of the hostages.
Melody Sucharewicz (44), the initiator, sees this step as crucial: "We're not alone - we have Germany's solidarity. The ability to establish this hostage square at Bebelplatz is a powerful declaration - even to the terrorists."
