'Beatles Love' wraps up on Las Vegas Strip
As Expected "The Beatles LOVE" will not survive the Mirage's transformation into a second Las Vegas Hard Rock Casino Resort next year. The Cirque du Soleil co-production - the Beatles' only ever stage show - comes to a close on July 7, a month shy of its 19th anniversary.
While the exact timeline remains unclear, The Mirage is set to be completely demolished and redeveloped by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, which purchased Steve Wynn from MGM Resorts in December 2022 for $1.1 billion. Wynn's strip-style casino resort.
In an internal memo obtained by the circus' own blog Vital Vegas, Mike Newquist, president of resident and affiliated shows, said today that the Seminole Tribe "has informed us that It plans to do so "to close the entire property" for major renovations. We expected the show to take place in late 2024, but now we know the show will end on July 7, before the hotel closes, as the renovation process will begin soon. "
Official press release from Stéphane Lefebvre, CEO of Cirque. It reads: "More than 11.5 million guests have seen The Beatles LOVE since it opened in 2006. All of us at Cirque du Soleil are honored to perform with The Beatles and Apple Corps Ltd. The collaborative creation is only What can be called a masterpiece. We're grateful to the creators, cast, crew and everyone involved who made this show come to life, and we know The Beatles' LOVE will live on long after its final performance time."
The Beatles LOVE brings together characters from many Beatles songs, including Eleanor Rigby, Mr. Kite, Sgt. Pepper and Eggman, in an extremely streamlined storyline and dazzling acrobatics. , innovative stage mechanics and a soundtrack that includes some of the Beatles. Recording some of the best songs in music history more than makes up for it.
Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the widows and children of John Lennon and George Harrison attended the opening night on June 30, 2006. (Speaking of pressure as an actor!)
Harrison himself and circus founder Guy Laliberté laid the foundation for the show at a party at the 2000 Grand Prix in Montreal. Harrison did not live to see the Beatles perform, but he praised their future collaborations. He even attended an "O" event with McCartney in November 2001, a few months before McCartney's death.
However, according to Harrison's widow Olivia, the show Harrison and Laliberte were discussing should take place in London rather than Las Vegas.
It's unclear whether the $100 million custom-built "Beatles for Love" theater that replaced the Siegfried and Roy Theater will be, or if the space will remain an event space.
Tickets for "The Beatles LOVE" performances through June 29 are on sale now on the Cirque du Soleil website. Pre-sale of tickets for shows in the last week of July will begin in the coming weeks.
