Company has a strong contender! - Bayern's curiosity in a relegation coach?
Is HE Truly the Ideal Replacement?
On a Saturday, Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl (50) expressed, regarding their ongoing hunt for a coach, "We'll identify a brilliant resolution. A close friend of mine often remarks, 'The best arrives last.'"
There are even rumors of current discussions. The Belgian professional is currently still connected with Burnley FC. Nevertheless, Kompany recently fell into the second division with the English Premier League club - only a year after rising.
Why are Bayern Interested in a Demoted Coach?
This former HSV player and one-time Manchester City captain (2008-2019) is commonly viewed as one of the hottest coaching prospects at this moment.
His first engagement as a head coach was with RSC Anderlecht in his native land. Kompany was still playing at this club and had previously functioned as a player-manager in his final season.
The fact that a promising lead is now raising eyebrows suggests that Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund (46) are no longer solely focusing on well-known coaches, but are also investigating young, ambitious coaches!
After the refusals of Xabi Alonso (42/Leverkusen), Julian Nagelsmann (36/DFB), Ralf Rangnick (65/Austria), Oliver Glasner (49/Crystal Palace), Tuchel with renewed discussions last week, and Roger Schmidt (57/Benfica Lisbon), new perspectives are in order. Other coaches seek to stay at their clubs, such as Unai Emery (52/Aston Villa), or prefer to work in the Premier League, such as Julen Lopetegui (57/likely at West Ham). No agreement was struck with Roberto De Zerbi (44/leaving Brighton) following negotiations.
Is Kompany Coming?
The conjecture is that he could one day become a phenomenal coach. Kompany gained a great deal of insight from tactical mastermind Pep Guardiola (53) during his time at Man City. The former Bayern coach went as far as to call his protege the logical successor at the Premier League champions: it was his "destiny to become a coach there."
Taking a recently demoted coach to the record champions - can this work?
The 89-time international has never coached a top club before. Throwing Kompany into the deep end could be a risk, as was the case with Leverkusen's champion coach Xabi Alonso (42), but the opposite is also conceivable.
Kompany would be a significant gamble! And potentially the ideal solution for last?
