Lawyer explains cause of his predicament in court. - Bayern Munich's Kim opens up about internal struggles.
Min-jae Kim (27) hasn't met the standards set for him at FC Bayern. This season, his performance has drawn widespread criticism due to his frequent errors on the field. In an interview with Footballist and t-online, Kim explained the factors contributing to his struggles.
Kim mentioned, "As a defender, I've always played with confidence. But here, at FC Bayern, that wasn't always necessary, which led to internal conflicts for me."
To recall, Kim's performance at Bayern this season has been below par, exemplified by his performance in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid (2:2). He lost sight of Vinícius Júnior (23) and got too far out of position, resulting in a goal against.
Additionally, he brought down Rodrygo (23), resulting in a penalty goal by Vinícius. Bayern had to settle for a draw going into the second leg. Tuchel, his former coach, criticized his defensive actions as "too greedy." Following the game, Kim only said, "I'm sorry."
During the second leg, when Real led 1-0, Kim was brought in as a substitute. However, Real turned the game around, and the final score was 1:2, with Bayern eliminated from the tournament.
In the penultimate match against VfL Wolfsburg (2:0), Tuchel gave Kim a chance and let him play from the beginning. Still, Kim seemed cautious throughout the game.
Kim admitted, "During the game, there were several moments when I hesitated. I couldn't play with complete conviction and was trying hard to fulfill the coach's expectations."
He also missed the season's final match against TSG Hoffenheim (2:4) due to a minor injury to his left ankle.
Summing up his season, Kim said, "It wasn't a satisfying year for me, and I need to work harder next season." He concluded, "But when I make mistakes and show vulnerabilities, it's crucial to learn from them."
*The incoming Bayern coach will surely demand improvement in these areas from Kim as well.
