Yet to participate in team training. - Bayer prodigy Wirtz diligently prepares for the championship.
Following the Champions League match at home against FC Augsburg (May 18), there are two remaining games in the Europa League (May 22 against Atalanta Bergamo in Dublin) and the DFB Cup (May 26 versus 1. FC Kaiserslautern in Berlin).
The main query: Will top player Florian Wirtz (21) participate?
The context: The international is still dealing with thigh issues after getting kicked by a horse during the game in Dortmund (April 21/1:1). Therefore, Wirtz trained separately on Wednesday morning and did not join team practice.
Wirtz Exercising for the Finals
Coach Xabi Alonso (42) led his team in training at 11 a.m. at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium. At 11:36 a.m., Wirtz entered the training grounds at the stadium with athletics coach Markus Müller (38). Wirtz engaged in sprints, turns, and ball exercises. His performance seemed much better and more energetic compared to his last brief appearance against Roma (2:2) during the Euro semi-final.
So how does the skilled coach intend to handle his playmaker?
"I spoke to Flo after training," shared coach Xabi Alonso (42). "His feeling was better, but we need to be cautious and follow the right process. We'll observe his comfort and pain levels daily and then make a decision." Alonso assures, "There is no danger of a severe injury."
Currently, there's no cause for concern that Wirtz might miss the finals. However, it's yet to be determined if he'll play a few minutes against Augsburg on Saturday for a celebratory reception by the champions.
