The initial ruling of the Kuntz case - Baumgart continues as HSV's head coach.
The second day of HSV's new sports director, Stefan Kuntz, and the crucial decision he made. Kuntz, who has a contract until 2026, grants coach Steffen Baumgart a second chance in missing promotion.
New boss talks about Baumgart: "I had a four-hour meeting with Steffen on Wednesday. We shared ideas and discussed various topics. Steffen hasn't had the chance to prepare fully or express any transfer wishes yet."
He further explained: "I was amazed by the consistency of HSV in recent years. I didn't feel it was right to question the coach's position now. To answer your question briefly: Yes, we'll keep Baumgart as our coach."
Kuntz conducted an in-depth analysis of the sporting situation at the second-division club during the supervisory board meeting. He chose not to share the details publicly. Kuntz said, "It's not my place to criticize my colleagues. Looking at the facts, it's clear where HSV shined and where they could have improved."
He added: "Kiel and St. Pauli were both more compact defensively and had fewer high-risk ball losses. HSV, on the other hand, were great at generating chances. We need to give Baumgart time to find the right balance."
Kuntz evaluated the team's current talent: "There's a certain baseline quality here. Around a dozen clubs want to earn promotion. A few big-name clubs are in the race. We need to perform well and consider incorporating loan players or young talents."
His perspective on the youth prospects: "The young players are listed on the team. They've mostly been planned for. I can't fathom a scenario where HSV fails to cultivate their youth to play in the main team."
