Schalke and Osnabrück trade accusations. - Battle ensues over phantom match in the mud
Osnabrück's match against Schalke, which was postponed earlier, will now take place next Tuesday (6:30 PM/Sky) at the Millerntor Stadium in St. Pauli, but without any spectators. The German Football League (DFL) gives "organizational challenges" as the reason for this decision.
The dispute between the two teams over which club is responsible for the postponing of the match is escalating.
Mudslinging over a ghost game!
► Osnabrück tried to change venues in the last minute, but Schalke isn't happy about it: "Unfortunately, FC Schalke 04 didn't approve a transfer to Bremen or Hanover and sent a letter, which we don't understand at all. The fact that no fans will be allowed to attend disappoints us, not just for the supporters of both clubs [...] but also for the competition."
► Schalke's board, led by Matthias Tillmann (40), contradict Osnabrück's accusations: "The blame for the current situation lies with the organizer, VfL Osnabrück. The claim that FC Schalke 04 is against fan-friendly solutions is completely untrue. [...] VfL never offered a valid, binding proposal that would have made it possible for fans to attend the match [...] and they ignored the option of hosting it at St. Pauli with a crowd."
